Project Concept
For this project, I wanted to create a showcase of notable and influential Scandinavian furniture design from the 20th century. The designers I have selected have had a tremendous impact on the design world and modern interior spaces, making quality, functional design mass-produced and accessible. Beyond geographic origin and timeline, the selected designers are connected by strong values of functionalism and democratic design. Scandinavian modern furniture relies heavily on the idea of democratic design, which aims to create beautiful, functional designs that improve quality of life while remaining affordable, practical, and accessible. The designs also share commonalities by using organic shapes, bent and shaped wood, clean lines, and a focus on simplicity to avoid unnecessary clutter.
